What is yacht america 1851?

Yacht America was a racing yacht built in 1851 for the New York Yacht Club and sailed in the British Royal Yacht Squadron's 100 Guinea Cup race in Cowes, Isle of Wight. The yacht was designed by George Steers, and its construction was funded by a syndicate of members from the New York Yacht Club.

On August 22, 1851, Yacht America competed against 14 other yachts in the 53-mile race around the Isle of Wight, including the favorite, the British yacht Aurora. Yacht America won the race by over 18 minutes and was the first yacht to win what would become known as the America's Cup. The victory caused a sensation in the yachting world, and the cup was renamed in the yacht's honor.

After the race, Yacht America was sold, and its whereabouts remained unknown for many years until it was rediscovered in the 1920s. The yacht was restored by a group of American yacht enthusiasts, and in 1967, a replica of Yacht America was built in San Diego, California, and has since been used for charter sailing and racing. The original Yacht America is now a museum exhibit at the San Diego Maritime Museum, where it can be viewed by the public.
